4G dongle or private SIM for your BYD?

A 4G dongle can provide vehicle internet through WiFi, but it is not always the first choice. A compatible BYD with supporting software may offer a simpler, more stable connection through a private SIM in its built in modem.
Check private SIM support first
Some 2025 models and 2023 models with supporting software can use a private SIM while retaining app services and OTA updates. Check the model, software and market rather than relying on year alone. Read the private SIM guide before replacement.
When a dongle makes sense
A dongle is an alternative if private SIM support is unconfirmed or you prefer to keep the original SIM in place. It creates a WiFi network for the vehicle. Check compatibility with local cellular networks and the available power source.
Compare real world stability
The built in modem avoids an external device and an extra WiFi connection. A dongle also depends on its power supply and the vehicle joining its network. With either setup, test coverage where you park and on your usual routes.
Test reconnection and data usage
After setup, verify that the vehicle reconnects after switching off and on. Remote viewing uses mobile data, so select a plan based on actual use and carrier terms. A small data allowance will not fit every usage pattern.
If Magic Guard still will not connect
First check whether the vehicle itself has internet access. Then check the automatic disable and enable window in the vehicle: remove the app selection by turning its switch off in that window. If the issue continues, tell the support bot your vehicle model, app versions and connection type.
